Veda Tunstall and her mother, Vernetta Henson, are descendants of enslaved people aboard the Clotilda.

Emmett Lewis, a barber, is a descendant of Cudjo Lewis (b. 1841, Benin, Africa – d. 1935, Mobile, Alabama, USA), who was one of the last survivors of the Clotilda.

Major Joe Womack is a founder of the Africatown Heritage Preservation Foundation. He was born in historic Africatown and attended Mobile County Training School (MCTS), the first public high school for African Americans in Alabama.
