On Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 2-5pm, ALMA | LEWIS will open its doors to the public for our FREE family-friendly Community Day!
Members of the community will experience the new home of ALMA | LEWIS in Pittsburgh’s East End. Visitors can meet current and former Artist Fellows, view the first survey exhibition of Cecil McDonald, Jr: The American Beauty; participate in hands-on, artist-led activities and programming; tour our new studios, galleries and The Black Archive; enjoy free food and beverages, and more!

Open Studios with Inaugural Artist Fellows Sharbreon Plummer and Layo Bright!
Meet the inaugural Artist Fellows in their studios during open studios. Writer, scholar, and interdisciplinary artist Sharbreon Plummer, Ph.D., and visual artist and sculptor Layo Bright will lead hands-on activities and talk about their work. Our open studios are an opportunity to engage with the artists, see their creative process and work, and learn more about their practice.
The expanded gallery will open with the first survey of Chicago-based artist Cecil McDonald, Jr. whose photography and time-based work reflects on Black domestic life, masculinity, and performance. Meet Cecil McDonald, Jr., and join us for his Ceremonial Walk.
